Hi! I'm Lila

I'm a mom of three fun, energetic, and adventurous children (Sawyer, 5; Wylder, 4; and Selma, 3 months), a toy poodle/Chihuahua, Prawn, and a Chesapeake Bay Retriever named Louie. I teach 3rd and 4th grade in Homer, Alaska, and in my spare time, I love to adventure around the stunning Kenai Peninsula with my family and tribe of fun and athletic friends. Endurance open-water swimming and marathon running are my passions, and I also enjoy the occasional triathlon.

I grew up deckhanding for my dad on his salmon gillnetters in Cook Inlet and Bristol Bay, so I never really got into gardening or farming. But after Sawyer was born in 2010, I needed to find a new, landlocked activity to pour my energy into (at least for this life-phase). So, we’ve been busy learning about growing vegetables and raising chickens and pigs. I’m also a bit of a canning/preserving nut (try it – it’s addicting!). And the winter, I like to crochet lots and lots of hats… and a few other things.

I decided to start this blog to share some of these passions and hopefully to learn some new tricks through conversations with my readers. Thanks for checking it out! If you have questions, information, other experiences, or ideas for future posts,  please don’t hesitate to share in the comments or fill out the contact form below. I'm so happy you stopped by!

Success! Message received.
